Catherine Blummont

I am doing the Pink Ribbon walk to say thank you to all the medical professionals who cared for me on my breast cancer journey.

My story goes like this….in February 2019 I noticed that my right breast was different to my left breast. I went to see my GP the very next day and he referred me to the wonderful people at Canterbury Breast Care. I am so grateful that each person whom I saw took the right investigative action straight away. I was diagnosed in early March with invasive ductal carcinoma. I required intensive chemotherapy to shrink the growth so that I could have a mastectomy. The chemotherapy was brutal but effective! I have survived a mastectomy, a separate axillary lymph node clearance, radiation and Herceptin treatment. I am now doing long term hormone suppression treatment. At this stage the cancer has gone!!

I want to say a huge thank you to the team at Canterbury Breast Care, St Georges Cancer Care, Oncology at Christchurch Hospital, the Breast Cancer Foundation and the services provided by their Pink Ribbon Card and the “Look Good Feel Better” Team. I also am extremely grateful for the support of my church family @ Bryndwr Chapel and the Redwood School Whanau. Cancer is hard on your family and I want to acknowledge their amazing support for me while struggling to maintain their own lives. Finally I want to acknowledge God who has given me hope, peace and courage on this challenging journey.
